The Cast and Crew at Savior Fare.
Mmmm the Pacific Northwest. This was my first trip, I hope of many, out to Portland, Oregon. I now have a cute little nephew that was born this February out there so…yeah that’s my excuse. LOL. Professor von Teasa and I arrived on Thursday April 15th. We had a layover in Phoenix so we got to fly over the Grand Canyon and my oh my it’s grand! On landing at the PDX (Portland’s Airport) we flew around Mt. Hood. I have no words for this; it was the most amazing site. I have the pictures up on my Facebook page if you want to check it out.
On arrival I was booked to perform at Savior Fare at Hawthorne Theater Lounge. It’s a beautiful little lounge-y bar with couches and tables and a fantastic bartender. I was booked by one Rayleen Courtney and she is one busy woman! She runs this and Cuda Cabaret and is directing a tour, now does a podcast http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fitunes.apple.com%2Fpodcast%2Fsinnsavvyproductions%2Fid371036051&h=c2070 and dodgeball and who knows what all else! I performed that night with Laura Dean the MC, Sandria Dore’ who did a wonderful fan dance with playing card fans that she made herself..yes we were drooling, Euphemia Fox, let me tell you this woman has some moves, and Cherry Valance, who sang, tap danced in her number, colour me impressed with each and everyone! I do have to say a little about Itty Bitty Bang Bang, who I have been dying to meet and finaly got to, she didn’t perform that night, but she did on Friday…..hands down she made the BEST Cheetah Girl EVER!
On Friday we saw Cuda Cabaret at Barracuda Lounge and once again it was a great show! I have to say that I enjoyed the scene out there. They were all extremely welcoming and friendly and there didn’t seem to be any of that “tension” as in everyone fighting to gain performance slots and semi popularity/beauty contest that I was afraid of. They all seemed happy and you could tell that they were having some fun up there on that stage! I hope to meet them all again and see them perform..again!
The rest of the time we spent with my new Sister-in-Law and nephew who is 10wks old and quite the clam little bit. We toured a distillery and ordered us some yummy fruit cordials to take home. I finally got my Maple Bacon Log Doughnut from Voodoo Doughnuts and it was better than I even imagined. Portland is obliviously a city close to me heart as on every street corner there is a chocolate shop. At Moonstruck, my second favorite choclatier, I had my life changing milkshake. I ain’t lying people…..Life. Changing.
We also took a visit on down to Chinatown and took in a tour of the Traditional Chinese Gardens that were built there in 2000, I believe. It was beautiful. They were celebrating the Kite Festival back home so all over the little pagodas were these amazing kites. I wish so much that I gotten pictures of the uber-mini kites. We took tea at the Teahouse where we had Red Bean Moon Cake, Edamame and Beautiful tea. On Saturday we visited the Market. It’s a place much like our own Saturday at Market Square downtown….only with a wider array of artists and nix the local produce, but add local beer. Hooray Beer! Yes I did me some beer drinking in Portland, I thought it was required.
On a final note about Portland, their homeless population is prolific, aggressive and varied. Many I saw were quite wholly in their own mental illness. It was beautiful and amazing and heartbreaking. On one train ride I was serenaded by a man who thought he was singing to me in Cherokee. At other times I would be near a person that was having the most rational, friendly and clam conversation……..to someone that wasn’t there.
………………..I can’t wait to go back!
